For Ray Spear, a career of 18+ years in the men’s grooming industry began with attending Barber Styling Institute in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 2006. Since becoming a barber, Ray has taught and mentored many fellow barbers and obtained his instructor license in 2017.  

Ray has worked with Modern Male Barbershop since 2012, starting as a two-chair shop with his business partner, and growing to seven locations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Modern Male brand expanded its reach in 2018, opening Modern Male Barber Academy to cultivate future professionals in the men’s grooming industry. Ray’s vast industry knowledge is a culmination of time behind the chair, in the classroom, and in the office as well.
